Hauser & Wirth

Where to Visit: Hauser & Wirth

Tate Modern, Saatchi Gallery, Somerset House: art aficionados are spoilt for choice when it comes to galleries in London. Our favourite? Hauser & Wirth. After opening in 2003, this lesser-known contemporary space on Piccadilly has gone on to become one of Europe’s leading international galleries, and holds works by the likes of Louise Bourgeois, Paul McCarthy and Martin Creed. Fun fact: the building was once a former bank (designed in 1922 by renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens), and comes complete with its very own basement vaults.

Mondrian London

Where to Stay: Mondrian London

From the sweeping copper hull that greets you in the entrance to the statement marble bar in the cocktail lounge, Mondrian London at Sea Containers is every design lover’s dream. Housed in the iconic Southbank building, this luxury hotel exudes the glamour of a 1920s transatlantic liner ‒ thanks to its 2014 nautical makeover under the creative direction of Tom Dixon ‒ while offering all the modern amenities you could wish for. Take the gold Arne Jacobsen taps in the lobby bathrooms or the front-row view of the Thames from the sumptuous suites. We could go on.

Lighterman

Where to Eat: The Lighterman

The latest addition to the 67 acre rejuvenation project in King’s Cross also happens to be the most delicious. This sleek, industrial three-storey restaurant ‒ headed up by Executive Chef Diego Cardoso ‒ not only serves up great food (think British classics with a Euro twist), but it offers unrivalled views of Regent’s Canal and Granary Square. If that wasn’t enough, it also has not one, but three alfresco terraces. What’s in the name? It comes from the Victorian ‘lighter’ good barges that once ruled the waterways. History buffs book now...
