The Principal Madrid Hotel

Where to Stay: The Principal Madrid Hotel

This is where traditional Madrid and modern Madrid meet. On the outside, this luxury hotel appears to be an archetypal 1920s Art-Deco building, but inside it’s a completely different story ‒ think cool grey tones, clean lines and fashion-forward furniture. If you can drag yourself away from the modern amenities of your room, head to the chic rooftop terrace bar (which boasts panoramic views of the city) for a cocktail or two, or the heavenly wellness suite ‒ the perfect respite after a day of sight-seeing. And, relax…

Orgaz

Where to Eat: Orgaz

After a recent makeover (courtesy of architect Miguel Crespo Picot) this once unassuming neighbourhood restaurant is now a chic little eatery for Conde Orgaz Park residents and visitors alike. Its retractable glass façade and pretty pot plants ‒ dotted amongst white-washed alcoves ‒ create a dreamy outdoor/indoor dining experience. What’s on chef José Luis Moreno’s menu? Delicious Iberian dishes such as Galician Octopus and Oxtail Timbale, or for the less adventurous, a fantastic Chicken Caesar Salad and our favourite: the hamburger.

Museo del Prado

What to See: Museo del Prado

A trip to the Spanish capital wouldn’t be complete without a visit to this neo-classical national monument. One of the world’s largest (and regarded as one of the greatest) museums, the Museo del Prado is home to over 7,000 of Europe’s finest paintings ‒ dating all the way back from the 12th century right through to the early 19th century. Our top tip: this treasure trove of paintings, prints, sculptures and historic documents is best explored in a number of trips. Only have time for a flying visit? Make sure you don’t miss Goya’s Maja Desnuda.
