Fitness blogger Faya Nilsson reveals the five things she relies on to shape up for summer...

The Workout

The Workout

My Top 5 Bodyweight Exercises ‒ the squat, the one-legged dead lift, the press up, the pull up and the plank ‒ are the key to help you get (or stay) in shape. Execute them in a circuit for a minute each, moving straight to the next without a break. A minute’s recovery after your fifth exercise (followed by another two sets of the same) should get you in shape for summer in no time.

The Accessory

The Accessory

The TRX is one of my favourite pieces of ‘fit kit’. Light as a feather, you can pop it in your bag and take it anywhere, and it guarantees a full-body workout. A slightly heavier piece of kit, which if you’re training from home is amazing, is the Russian kettle bell. It's great for building power, strength and toasting fat.

The Smoothie

The Smoothie

I start every day with what I like to call my ‘multi-vitamin hit’ ‒ a small cold press juice shot. It consists mainly of vegetables, as they have a lower profile on the glycaemic index (creating less of a sugar spike in the blood stream). It consists of kale, spinach, ½ a lime, a 1cm amount of ginger root and ½ an apple. Roots & Bulbs on Marylebone High Street also sells lovely fresh pressed juices if you don’t have a smoothie maker at home.

In the summer, you may crave a ‘lighter’ option that is still nutritional and filling. Salads are fabulous, as you can literally raid your vegetable box ‒ the more colours, the better! Alternatively, hit the barbeque and grill some delicious fresh fish. Two of my favourite recipes for summer are Seared Tuna and Prawn and Mango Skewers.

The Inspiration

For pure body and lifestyle motivation I follow Victoria's Secret model Izabel Goulart’s Instagram (@iza_goulart). I also follow military fitness instructor Tee Major (@teemajor) for fitness inspiration and bodyweight exercises ‒ he has such incredible strength and control over his body, and definitely inspires me to get down to the gym!
