After the (over) indulgence of Christmas, the thought of squeezing into a pair of skinny jeans makes us want to climb straight back into our pyjamas. Luckily, thanks to this season's biggest trend, it's cool to be comfortable.

It may sound like a made-up word coined by fashion insiders, but 'Athleisure' has encapsulated our generation's love of dressing down so perfectly that it has made its way not only onto the runways, but into the Merriam-Webster dictionary. The definition? 'Casual clothing designed to be worn both for exercising and for general use.' Hoorah: finally a trend that busy women everywhere can work into their everyday lives. This, however, does not mean that the jogging bottoms you wore to paint the house in or the baggy T-shirt you wear to yoga are acceptable everyday attire. Think of it simply as off-duty dressing with a luxury, athletic-inspired spin: cashmere sweatshirts, wool lounge pants, sporty culottes to cite some stylish examples.

Here are just a few of our favourite ways to master the trend this season (just in case you need a little inspiration)...

The 24/7

If, like us, your body clock still hasn't adjusted to getting up at 7am after the Christmas break then you will welcome a fuss-free outfit. Cue our draped jumpsuit: the ultimate day-to-night piece. Simply dress down with flats and up with strappy sandals. Easy peasy.

The Go-Faster
Stripe Trousers

Meet the slimmer, sleeker version of the classic 90s two-stripe jogging bottoms. With no poppers or zips in sight, they will look as great at the office with a white shirt and heels as they will at the weekend with a chunky knit and sneakers.

The Slouchy

Part cape, part jumper, this oversized knit will hide a multitude of festive-dinner sins. Plus, it's made from super-soft merino wool ‒ perfect for snuggling up in on cold winter days ‒ and has an ultra-flattering stepped hem. Tick, tick, tick.

The Drawstring

Yes, that's right: the drawstring waist is now totally acceptable in the fashion world, especially when it's attached to a pair of on-trend culottes. Comfy and chic (with just the right amount of slouch), they're the perfect weekend trouser. Just add a lightweight sweatshirt and flats.
