Warwick Castle

Warwick Castle

From the impressive medieval architecture to a new Horrible Histories adventure maze, this fortress ‒ originally built by William the Conqueror in 1068 ‒ is sure to keep kids (big and small) entertained.

New Place

New Place

If you're a Shakespeare superfan, you might want to visit all six of his family homes. But if you only have time for one, make it New Place. Set to reopen in July 2016 following a £5.25 million restoration, this is where the Bard spent the last 19 years of his life after making his fortune on the London stage. What else makes it worth seeing? The prettily regimented knot garden at the back.

Church Street Townhouse

Church Street Townhouse

What Stratford-upon-Avon lacks in cutting-edge cool, it makes up for with an abundance of classic charm. Case in point: this lovely little boutique hotel. Twelve individually designed rooms ‒ all complete with super-king-size beds and drench showers ‒ are housed in a 400-year-old, Grade II listed building; just opposite from a school once attended by (him again) William Shakespeare.

Royal Shakespeare Theatre

Royal Shakespeare Theatre

You can't visit the Bard's hometown and not see a performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company. But what’s it to be (or not to be)? Our vote goes to Hamlet starring Paapa Essiedu, the first black actor to play the role in the RSC’s 55-year history. Insider tip: the rooftop restaurant is a great spot for pre-show dinner or cocktails, and boasts incredible views over the River Avon.

The Bell

The Bell

A mere 10 minute drive from town, The Bell is characterful (it was once an 18th century coaching inn) yet unpretentious, which is exactly how we like our county pubs. What’s on the menu? British favourites made using locally-sourced produce. Think scallops with Cotswold gold truffle oil mash and a cracking Sunday roast with Warwickshire beef. Yum.
