What to eat, see and do near our store in the historic spa town...

Van Zeller

The man behind this intimate restaurant is chef Tom van Zeller: born and bred in Harrogate, he whips up innovative dishes bursting with locally-sourced produce. Think of it as fine dining without the fuss.

The Devonshire Arms Cottages

The Devonshire
Arms Cottages

Set in the Bolton Abbey Estate, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, you’ll find two stone-built cottages: Stank House and Wharf View. The latest venture from The Devonshire Arms (aka the heavyweight of Yorkshire hotels), they’re a 30-minute drive from town, but trust us, they’re worth it. Each one feels like a home away from home ‒ only with an outdoor hot tub to boot.

Bettys Café Tea Rooms

Bettys Café
Tea Rooms

This isn’t just a café, it’s an institution. Bettys (no apostrophe) was opened in 1919 by Frederick Belmont, a young baker and confectioner from the Swiss Alps. Quality local ingredients ensure this popular tea room stays true to its Yorkshire roots while the Swiss influence comes through in the attention to detail: think delicate finger sandwiches and mouth-watering miniature cakes.

Turkish Baths and Health Spa

Turkish Baths
and Health Spa

You couldn’t possibly visit a spa town and not book into a spa ‒ especially one as sensational as this. The Turkish interiors (which date back to the 19th century) are truly breath-taking: arabesque painted ceilings, towering tiled arches and multi-coloured glazed brickwork. So, whether you opt for a facial or a full body massage, there’s no better place to kick back and relax.

The Fat Badger

The Fat

This buzzy little Victorian-style pub ‒ housed within the historic White Hart Hotel in the Montpellier quarter ‒ is the perfect place for a pit stop. Sink into one of the slouchy leather Chesterfield sofas, and sample the Yorkshire-brewed draught beers, a tipple from the extensive wine list or a chic cocktail ‒ the exclusive Earl of Russia gets our vote.

Ripley Castle

You could easily spend a day exploring this 14th-century, Grade I listed castle, with its magnificent lakes, walled gardens and deer park. But be sure to catch the guided tour: as the castle has been home to the Ingilby family for 26 generations, it’s filled with historical nuggets ‒ like how ‘Trooper Jane’ Ingilby once kept Oliver Cromwell at gunpoint in the Library. Blimey.

RHS Garden Harlow Carr

RHS Garden Harlow Carr

Boasting lush woodland, wild flower meadows and a too-cute-for-words hedgehog-friendly garden, this 68-acre sanctuary will also play host to its first Flower Show this June. Watch out, Chelsea.
