How did the collaboration come about?

Jaeger were looking to collaborate with a menswear designer, however they wanted a collaboration with a difference. We decided that we wanted to focus on light outerwear with a sportswear feel, using technically-enhanced performance fabrics in a contemporary way.

The collection in a nutshell…

Well-made, authentic, contemporary menswear.

Why Jaeger?

Lou Dalton prides itself on quality and thoughtful design, ‎as does Jaeger. To work with a brand that has such an amazing history – from designing exploration gear for Shackleton to developing woollen undergarments – was a fantastic experience.

How did the design process start?

We pulled together a range plan‎ with an emphasis on light, non-seasonal outerwear. We then discussed colour and fabric, and I was given access to the Jaeger archive and pulled relevant material ‎from there to develop the collection.

Did you enjoy working with the team?

Working with Jaeger has been fantastic (James Jee in particular). The whole team are incredibly focused and driven to produce the best of the best in terms of product. The experience has been incredibly rewarding and the product developed is a credit to that.

Why is fabrication so important to this collection?

We wanted to create a collection for the cosmopolitan guy who may not want to be suited and booted Monday to Friday, but still wants to look well turned-out. So, the cloths are premium, hard-wearing, showerproof, breathable and light.

Who is the Lou Dalton x Jaeger man?

He is original and focused. He likes going to the pub, watching the game and takes pride in his appearance. He is your average chap, but one who aspires to value for money quality.

Do you have a favourite?

I’d have to say the light, zip-through blouson for its performance Prince of Wales check fabric. I also love the woven sport pants and light, merino wool jacquard knit.

Ours is the cycling jacket…

Cycling within the city is so vast and credible now, and although it wasn’t originally designed for cycling, it does sit well within this realm. But, it’s just as accessible to the bloke who wants a lightweight, showerproof jacket that fits with his lifestyle.

What can we look forward to for SS17?

The same and more – honing in on technically-enhanced fabrics and finishes, and super-fine gauge knitwear.
