Win tickets to V&A Event
On 6th November 2009, the V&A will host Women's Tailoring: Genesis and Evolution.
This unique event will be presented by three great British talents: Jaeger, the iconic luxury British fashion brand; Tristan Webber, Senior Tutor at the School of Fashion and Textiles; and Royal College of Art and Tailoring for Women, one of the few female tailors from Savile Row.
Jaeger is exclusively offering Telegraph readers the chance to win a pair tickets to this unique event.
SORRY THIS HAS NOW CLOSED.
(20 pairs of tickets are available to win*)
Each will provide the audience with an exclusive insight into their brand's history, their design processes and will demonstrate how they are carrying the tradition of tailoring to today's generation of fashion-savvy women.
Jaeger’s talented design team will outline the fashion house's evolution over the past 125 years, showcasing historical archive images and garments (some dating back to the inception of the brand) while giving a rare insight into Jaeger's heritage of design, fitting and styling, charting the dynamic nine month cycle from design to production.
By contrast, Tristan Webber from the Royal College of Art will revisit the traditional concept of the garment as a modern heirloom, whilst exploring forward-thinking techniques and processes from the generation of the design and its manufacture.
The final component comes from Savile Row, the core of British tailoring. Carol Alayne from Tailoring for Women - one of the few female working within the traditions of Savile Row - will bring a detailed, historical context to the event, demonstrating some of the traditional methods for constructing a tailored garment.
The event will be divided into two parts: the first will be in seminar format with a closing Q&A section with complimentary goody bag for audience members, followed by a designer surgery in the V&A art studio, providing an opportunity to view displays of tailored garments and talk in more detail with the featured designers about their work.
Harold Tillman, Chairman of the British Fashion Council and Jaeger, studied Fashion Tailoring at London College of Fashion in 1963: 'Tailoring is having a strong renaissance and there is an ever-growing interest in the craft. The V&A's event on the genesis and evolution of women's tailoring will provide a rare and well-rounded insight into this esteemed British tradition.'
